Hibernation cave

this may seem like a silly question but what is the purpose of a hibernation cave? i know you can stick dragons in it, but is there a reason why you would need to? are there dragons that would prefer to be there or is it like a method of hatching dragon eggs when you don't have the habitat for it?

bbarra's picture

Hibernation cave is a storage area for extra dragons you don't have a habitat for. Like if you get a rainbow and don't have the habitat yet or you get a dragon that will make more miney than one you have but the habitat is full so switch them out rather tan selling the ither one, Also, eventually you want to get shrines which allow you to level your dragons to 15 but before you can do that you have to have 50 of each dragon type. Where are you going to put 500 dragons? It only holds a certain amount but the shrines keep track of them even after you sell them. So if you had 6 fog dragons you could sell them to make more room but they would still be counted as part of your 50. They don't make any money while they are in hibernation.

thank you for the explanation. i was really kind of confused when i saw it. but i understand now thank you so much :D

What level does your park have to be to get the hibernation cave and how much is it?

bbarra's picture

Level 14. Look in the market for the cost.

Lets say you have 30 or so level 10 dragons in hibernation and you are just beginning to level up some of the dragons in you park to 11 & 12. Well, you've got a long way to go to get all of them to level 15. If I already have 3 level 10 rain dragons in my park, do I really need to keep the 3 level 10 rising in hibernation? I mean of hat benefit would they be later on if I already have several.

Well, assuming you are trying to get your dragon statues to the next level (so you can get Level 20 dragons), I would keep them, get them to Level 15 and then sell them (assuming the ones in your habitats are level 15 already).

bbarra's picture

They are all level 10. I doubt that I will make it to 20. I had over almost 200,000 treats and leveled 10 or 11 to level 13 and now have less that 500,000 treats. I did the math. To take a dragon from 10 to 15 is 2,621,440 treats..just one dragon! I used a lot of my treats just to get silver shrines but now I sell it if the shrine is silver. Just hate to waste the 10's that are in there even though I will probably never use them. Concentrating on metal and cold. Earth is fine for now. I have paper an panalog in each one at level 13 with 3 quakes and mud dodo sandstorm so they are doing nicely. Btw, just did ash and frostfire and got another ash. Other possibility was an opal for that combo.

I am getting everything to level 15 now in my habitats (done with metal, earth and cold, onto fire now). I am not sure you math is right, I think it's about 320,000 treats to go from 10 to 15, no? I'll do the exact math next time I do it.

bbarra's picture

Ok, I looked on wiki an to level 15 it said 81,920. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I use 2480 x4 to get to level 11 then whatever number comes up I x 4 and so on. This is going to make me nuts till I figure out where I'm erring but sure is a relief. I figured I'd croak before I even got them to 15! Maybe it's doable after all.

Well, here's the calculation of the cost:

To go from
Level 10 to 11: 4 x 2,560
Level 11 to 12: 4 x 5,120
Level 12 to 13: 4 x 10,240
Level 13 to 14: 4 x 20,480
Level 14 to 15: 4 x 40,960

You could just add all these up, but I am too lazy, so some math shortcuts. As you can see it doubles every step, so it's equal to:

= 4 x 2,560 x (1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16)
= 10,240 * 31
= 317,440 food

So it costs 317,240 coin to go from Level 10 to 15. You can use the same approach for:

Level 1 to 10:
= 4 * 5 * (1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 + 64 + 128 + 256) = 20 * 511
= 10,220 food

Level 1 to 15
= 4 * 5 * (1 + 2 + .... + 8,192)
here we can use another math trick since the sum in the parenthesis is 2^0 + 2^1 + ... 2^13, which happens to be (2^14 - 1) or 16,383
= 20 * 32,767
= 327,660 food
(which obviously is the same as 317,440 + 10,220 (the cost of going from Level 1 to 10 and then Level 10 to 15).

and finally, how much food does it cost to go from Level 1 to Level 20?
Level 1 to 20:
= 4 * 5 * (1 + 2 + ... + 262,144)
= 20 * (2^19 - 1)
= 20 * 524,287
= 10,485,740 food

So it takes a lot of food to get a dragon to Level 20. :) Since it costs 5,000,000 coin to get 100,000 food, it's about 524,287,000 coin to get one dragon to Level 20.

I just got one of these their so helpful!

How do I get a shrine? What does it look like? Is it a decoration? I just got to LEvel 17 this morning and have about 10 Level 10 dragons.

Shadows333's picture

I have gotten the name shrine mixed up with the name citadel. No wonder I got no responses. LOL. So sorry!!

I've been looking, but cannot find an answer to my question. Just how to we use this? How do we put a dragon into the cave?? I've tried a few way, but doesn't work.

Hi USMCMom, go to the habitat where the dragon is you want to put into hibernation. Click on the dragon and then click move. A green arrow will then appear over all the habitats it can be moved to and the hibernation cave. Just click on the hibernation cave and it will move. It's just the same as moving the dragon between habitats.

I am new here and have a couple questions...
How many dragons will it hold?
Can you do anything with them while they are in there? Like breed, feed...? I know they don't earn while they are there...
Dragonvale Admin mentioned something about buying treats with dragon cash... How?
That's probably a good start for now.
Thanks in advance for answers!

Oh yeah...
Can you store eggs that haven't hatched yet?
Thanks again!

Hello Di, welcome!

The hibernation cave starts out with room for 25 dragons. It can be upgraded with gems to hold more. While dragons are hibernating they cannot be fed or used for breeding. You may change their name while hibernating but that's it.

There isn't a way to buy treats with dragon cash outside of growing them in the farm plots. You may purchase treats using real money by tapping the bar at the top of your game that shows how many treats you have.

You can store eggs but only if you want it to be a pedestal decoration. You won't be able to hatch it later. You may keep the eggs you receive as gifts or twins in your gifts until you are ready to place them in the nursery.

Best wishes,

Dreamn
